An extra page recently started loading on startup of my computer, though I don’t know why. It’s the Yahoo main search page, and it lists the trending topics on the Internet every day. I’ve begun to notice, at a glance, that I have no clue about why these individuals and topics are currently at the top of a lot of people’s minds. So I finally gave in to my curiosity. Here are the top trending topics on Yahoo search this day, March 11, 2018, and a little about why. Maybe we’ll learn something interesting together.
Bruce Forsyth
Number One on today’s trending search list is Bruce Forsyth, an entertainer born in February 1928 who died on August 18, 2017, at age 89. He is most famous for his role in the Disney’s 1971 movie classic Bedknobs and Broomsticks. His memory is being honored, particularly in the United Kingdom, where he is considered a National Treasure. There was a gala to celebrate Forsythe’s life on March 10, and it was televised on the BBC network. How nice to see that gone doesn’t necessarily mean forgotten.
Maria Sharapova
Bad news for Russian tennis champion Maria Sharapova. The two-time champion at the Indian Wells Masters tournament lost in the first round last week to 20-year-old Naomi Osaka of Japan. It was a stunning upset. The annual event takes place at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, California. I did a double-take and checked the trending topics. Nope, no sign of Osaka searches. This is a time when the loser is getting a lot more attention than the winner.
Lisa Bonet
Lisa Bonet, who became famous as a co-star on The Cosby Show when she was a teenager, recently spoke about her husband, who is 12 years her junior; they are ages 50 and 38. But perhaps the biggest point of interest was that she spoke about sexual assault allegations against Bill Cosby. She made a statement about his having a “sinister energy.” Although there have been about 50 women break their silence and accuse Cosby of sexual assault, she hasn’t spoken about it until now. She saw no evidence of such misconduct but said his bad energy revealed enough. Hmmm.
