Ever hear of the dog days of summer? That's where we are right now. The days are hot and long until daylight savings time hits and eventually, it will be cooler again. But why is it called the dog days?
According to National Geographic, it actually has to do with when the Greeks believed in the star, Canis Major, as a dog chasing Lepus. They believed that it started in late July and carried over into August.
While we still wish that it was about actual dogs, it seems this legend is based on the stars. However, in honor of this name, Brisco ranked the best dogs to own as a pet. Check out our list below!

This dog is sure to be a handful, but he's worth it. They get along well with other dogs and families since they're used to being in a pack. Make sure you put them around other dogs and be sure to be home for them often - huskies don't like being left alone for a long period of time.

Don't mistake this dog by judging its size. Fiercely loyal, chihuahuas attach themselves to one person and make sure they vet anyone who comes into contact with their human. They're very expressive - if you're looking for a pup with personality, this is the choice for you!

The pug makes its way onto the list because they're very well rounded. You can put a pug in a city apartment or a large house, add it to your family or make it your only companion, make it your only pet or give it a pet sibling.
